Things To Do

Myrtle Beach SC second only to Nashville for country music!×201.jpg

When you think of country music, you probably think of Nashville TN, however, country music in Myrtle Beach SC is only second to the music city.

The website Vivid Seats took at look at cities coast to coast to see which ones were the best when it came to country music. To decide which ones made the list, Vivid Seats looked at data using the number of country or folk concerts scheduled for 2016 and lowest median ticket prices.

Out of 15 cities, Myrtle Beach ranked second. Of course, Nashville was number 1.

The Grand Strand may not have a street full of honky tonks or The Grand Ole Opry, but you can see some big name artists and country legends perform along the Grand Strand.

Because of this ranking, we decided to take a look at the reasons why we think Myrtle Beach is a great place for country music.

  • Of course, we have to start of with the Carolina Country Music Festival. This three day festival, June 10-12, features over 30 performers including Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line.
  • The legendary country music group Alabama kicked off their careers in Myrtle Beach! From 1973-1980, Alabama was the house band at The Bowery. You can still head to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk to enjoy live country music at The Bowery.
  • Speaking of Alabama, the group opened the Alabama Theatre at Barefoot Landing. This theatre is home to the popular ONE The Show, which is produced by Gaylord Entertainment, the owner of the Grand Ole Opry. This is also a popular venue for country music stars to perform. Coming up this year you can see acts such as Martina McBride, Josh Turner, The Oak Ridge Boys and Loretta Lynn.
  • Another venue popular for country music is the Calvin Gilmore Theatre. This theatre is home to The Carolina Opry. One of the show’s feature performers is Nashville recording artists Brad Long. The theatre also hosts special performances by country artists throughout the year.
  • During the summer months, you can enjoy country concerts outside on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. During Oceanfront Merchants Association’s Hot Summer Nights (June 4-August 27) you can see free country concerts every Tuesday night.

  • In addition to all of the above, several nightclubs and bars along the Grand Strand will host live country music.

So, should we have a new nickname for Myrtle Beach? Nashville East or Little Nashville?
