Things To Do

Local living like a tourist takes spin through WonderWorks

People often wonder about the story behind the upside down building at Broadway. Some may ask if all of the rooms are upside down. WonderWorks, the indoor amusement park, is not upside down inside but some of the activities make you feel like you were.

I went to go visit and I thought I would just walk around and take a few pictures. But my gracious hostess, Lori Lampo, Sr. Sales and Marketing Manager, would not let me walk around alone.  She said to fully experience WonderWorks you need to play, so she took out time from her busy day to show me around, and well, play.

On the first floor, the first activity we went to was the Xtreme 360 bikes: the harder you pedal the higher the bike goes and as the name states, it can do a 360! I was a little squeamish but most people would probably enjoy it.  Next we came to the virtual sports which, through a click of a button, you feel like you are part of the sport.  I played baseball and Lori had to nudge me to move on. Then we played virtual air hockey and I could have stayed all day to play.

Floor two had more mind games. The first game we played was called Mind Ball, where you literally have to clear your mind of all the junk. I lost. Around the corner we went to the 6D Extreme Motion Theatre and were made to feel like we were on a roller coaster.  Now I hate heights, but that was really fun! However, the most fun I had during my day was 20 Questions, where you think of something and answer the questions as they come up on the screen.  Both times the computer won (bichon frise and tennis racket were guessed correctly).

There is still so much more to do at WonderWorks, including the NASA Experience, Laser tag,  an arcade area and even a section for the under eight crowd.  As you can tell, it is not just for children and I definitely plan to come back with a friend and enjoy the day.

WonderWorks is open daily and is available for parties, private functions and team building activities.  I think it would even make a great first date. For more information on WonderWorks including the story behind the upside down building, visit them online at
