Myrtle Beach SC Boardwalk named to National Geographic's Top 10

The Myrtle Beach SC Boardwalk has brought home another accolade.

National Geographic has named the 1.2-mile boardwalk to its top ten list of boardwalks in the nation.

“The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk has truly become an iconic attraction along the Grand Strand,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, in a press release. “The concerts, restaurants, shops, arcades and throngs of visitors illustrates that investing in this stunning walkway was an important step in the Myrtle Beach area’s continued evolution into a world-class beach destination.”

The boardwalk is home to attractions like the SkyWheel, Second Avenue Pier and Plyler Park, which hosts Hot Summer Nights every summer with live music and other entertainment.

Other piers that made the list include  Atlantic City Boardwalk, Coney Island Boardwalk, Ocean City Boardwalk in Maryland, Ocean Front Walk in Venice, Calif., Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk in Deleware, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in California, Sandwich Boardwalk in Massachusetts, Virginia Beach Boardwalk and Wildwoods Boardwalk in New Jersey.

The boardwalk was completed in May 2010 and took nine months to complete. Restaurant like LandShark, Banditos and The Bowery are accessible from the boardwalk.
