Local living like a tourist takes look at Illusions of Magic in Myrtle Beach SC

Illusions of Magic at the Palace Theatre at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach SC is much more than just a magic show; it is an elaborate production of entertainment for all ages.

The show features the magic tricks of Peter Gossamer, who also serves as the emcee, as well as glitzy dancers, Bengal Tigers and Ben Blaque from season 7 of “America’s Got Talent,” who wows with his world-class crossbow skills.

Gossamer performs effortlessly as he charms the audience. His act features everything from magic to suspense to comedy. Most of his act is comprised of traditional illusions – watching his assistant disappear and be cut into pieces in every way imaginable, ripping a newspaper and then showing it whole again – but they still amaze me! Gossamer, along with the dancers, also includes a salute to Harry Houdini, performing his famous metamorphosis illusion (Gossamer and his assistant change places).

Adding to the excitement of the night was Carlos Revas from Colombia and the Terranova Tigers thrilling the audience with their tricks, especially when a few of the tigers actually jumped through a hoop ablaze with fire.

Blaque entertained the audience with his crossbow skills. His aim was perfect as he hit his targets every time.

My favorite moment at Illusions of Magic was when Blaque’s assistant was placed on a wheel with balloons and covered by another wheel. As the wheel turned, Blaque hit his five balloon targets while thankfully not hitting his assistant. He also amazed the audience when he correctly shot an apple while blindfolded.

Rounding out the night was the addition of human cannonball Jennifer Schneider, who was catapulted 150 feet through the air at 50 miles per hour right over the audience!

One of my favorite aspects of the show was the inclusion of dancers performing between acts to music from the Beatles, Coldplay and a 1920’s dance during the tribute to Houdini. Locals, whether you’re looking for something to do on a Saturday night or you want to entertain out-of-town guests, I highly recommend Illusions of Magic!
