And as more and more visitors take to their smartphones, tablets and computers to share their locations with the world, it’s no surprise that Myrtle Beach visitors are amongst the most active in sharing their destination information with the world.
Based on new data released by Facebook, Myrtle Beach is the most popular beach destination for spring breakers when it comes to checking-in on the social network.
Reviewing their data from the 2013 spring break period vs. the 2014 spring break period, Facebook chose the top 10 most popular beach destinations based on volume and increase in Facebook check-ins during the month of March.
They were looking to see where college-age users between 18 and 24 were vacationing and checking in at, and what the popular check-in destinations were for those 25 and older.
While Myrtle Beach didn’t make it on to the list of most popular spring break beaches for those 18 to 24, the Grand Strand ranked No. 1 and beat out other popular destinations like Miami’s South Beach and California’s Santa Monica Beach when the data for Facebook users 25 and over was tabulated.
“Social media continues to play an integral part in how we market our destination,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
