Get a first look at Carolina Forest’s new steak, seafood and sushi restaurant
A new restaurant serving steak, seafood and sushi is opening its doors Friday in Carolina Forest.
The newest addition to the Soho Steak and Seafood Sushi Bar chain is years in the making and will feature popular items from its three other locations in the area — along with some signature items diners won’t find anywhere else. Soho Carolina Forest is located at 95 McLeod Health Blvd. and will welcome customers starting at 11 a.m.
The Soho chain is known for its sushi and Asian fusion food, with locations in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. The new location in Carolina Forest took years of planning, “refining” and construction to become a reality, according to John Maloney, the restaurant’s operations manager.
Each Soho location has its own unique touches, and the Carolina Forest spot is no exception. Soho Carolina Forest features 12 new sushi options, eight new entrée and dinner options, and new signature cocktails, wine, sake and beer on tap, Maloney said.
“Every time we open one, we try to do something a little bit different,” said Maloney, who has been with Soho for about 10 years.
One of the new sushi items is the Soho Carolina Forest roll. Another, the Soho International Roll, is Maloney’s personal favorite, featuring unique flavors including mango and tomato.
Each location’s menu is tailored to the feel of the community where it resides. In Carolina Forest, this meant scaling back on some of the restaurant’s fried offerings and prioritizing fresh options, Maloney said.
The new location has two levels and an elevator. The whole space can seat about 250 people, Maloney said, and comes with two sushi bars and a VIP area that patrons can rent out for private events. It also has a “new modern version” of the popular geisha mural that became a popular photo spot at Soho’s 21st Avenue North location in Myrtle Beach, Maloney said.
Maloney said that Soho’s owner, Sam Lauren, has had his eye on the Carolina Forest community for some time now, and the restaurant is excited to establish itself in the area “because of the whole expansion of it.”
He explained that when he first moved to the Myrtle Beach area to work for Soho, he lived in an apartment very close to where the new Soho location sits, and the area looked completely different. Now, he and his team are excited to be part of the community’s rapid expansion.
