A favored eatery of Conway locals has re-opened in a different location with new options on the menu.

The Pickled Cucumber shuttered its Conway restaurant in June 2024 but re-opened in Surfside Beach in early March 2025. At 818 Surfside Drive, a brief walk from the ocean, Pickled Cucumber is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., although this is subject to change.

Nadya Batson owns the restaurant with her husband Eddie. In an interview with The Sun News, Batson said the pair thought they wanted to retire to spend more time with their family.

However, Nadya said she missed the fast-paced environment of the restaurant business.

“If anybody works in the restaurant industry, either you hate it or love it, and we love it,” she said. “So, we couldn’t just stay away.”

The restaurant still has the same menu items: country fried chicken, pulled pork, and 15-20 homemade sides. Batson recommended the fried chicken, mac and cheese and broccoli salad to uninitiated diners.

However, the menu features new additions. Batson said bowls are now an option, and customers can go in two directions with their order.

There’s the mac and cheese, country fried chicken, lima beans, buffalo sauce and bacon approach. Or, if one wants a lighter option, Batson said a bowl with rice, grilled meat, peas and chimichurri sauce is a fresh choice.

The Surfside restaurant also has new services. The Pickled Cucumber already did catering services, and will now offer to-go orders.

“We’re going for a fresh, fast and vibrant environment,” she added.

Pickled Cucumber has changed locations before, as it previously called Surfside Beach home before Conway. However, a 2017 fire destroyed the Surfside location.

Batson said regular diners from Conway and Aynor trek down to the new location, as do people who frequented the old Surfside Beach spot.

A new restaurant already occupies Pickled Cucumber’s former Conway location, as Anto’s Pizza Romana & Italian Market opened there in October 2024.
