A family-owned ice cream shop reopens in new Myrtle Beach location
A family-owned business in Myrtle Beach that was forced to close in September when the landlord decided to sell the property is back open for business.
It took Jo Baroody just a few weeks to find a new space for Daddio’s Ice Cream & Things, which had been on 3rd Avenue South, but three months to get the new place going.
After construction finished, Baroody opened March 31 and welcomed old and new guests to the space on 7th Avenue North.
She said the location is much bigger than the last and includes both the food part of the business and the ice cream shop.
Gyros, Philly cheese steaks and foot-long hot dogs are all included on the menu.
Baroody said locals that are familiar with the Brant’s Burgers, which opened in 1956, will remember the 19-cent burgers and milkshakes.
The family sold the restaurant in 2010, but they still sell the popular homemade chili hot dog, the long dog and the chili burgers.
There are also funnel cakes, fried Oreos and mason jars available for purchase.
“I’ve had a great location down there, so I’m just hoping to keep going, focus on the positive and just stay busy,” Baroody said.
She prefers brownie flavored ice cream, but she said the most popular flavor at the moment is strawberry shortcake.
Daddio’s, which has been around for 15 years, is open every day from noon to midnight.
