These 2 Horry County restaurants got low grades during recent inspections. Here’s why.

Two Horry County restaurants received low scores due to the presence of roaches and improper food handling practice, state health inspection reports show.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control conducts inspections every month and scores establishments based on their practices.

Here are the lowest scores from May 15 through May 20:

Rockefellers Raw Bar, on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach, scored a 78%, or “B,” during a routine inspection on May 19.

Inspectors found uncovered food in different areas of the restaurant, according to a DHEC report.

The establishment also lost points due to improper cooling practices and incorrect holding temperatures.

The inspection also found a door in the back of the restaurant with a gap at the bottom and roaches, the report states.

A manager with the restaurant was not immediately available Sunday afternoon. A reporter with The Sun News left a message.

A follow-up inspection will be scheduled within 10 days.

Chili Frito, on River Oaks Drive in Myrtle Beach, scored a 80%, or “B,” during a routine inspection on May 16.

Inspectors documented that employees were not washing hands in between tasks. The workers also were handling tortillas without gloves.

Cleaning products and other items was stored near food products, according to the report.

Inspectors docked off points because tortillas were stored in a damp towel, and wet wiping cloths were placed on prep surfaces instead of in sanitizer mixture.

A manager with the establishment could not be reached for comment.

A follow-up inspection will be scheduled within 10 days.
