Take a look at which Myrtle Beach area restaurants had low March health inspection ratings

Health inspectors gave some Myrtle Beach area food establishments low scores in March, finding evidence of rodents, expired food and soiled kitchen utensils, according to state reports.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control conducts inspections every month and releases grades and reports for food establishments in Horry County.

Four restaurants received some of the lowest ratings this month.

Here’s what inspectors found:

Chili Frito on River Oaks Drive in Myrtle Beach scored a 75% or a C on March 14 during a routine check up.

Health inspectors documented ice machines with mildew and pink slime on them, according to the DHEC report. Inspectors found drain flies at the bar and around a bucket of towels. They also observed employees using a plastic to-go bag to store tortillas. Inspectors said packages of gum were sitting on plates and food not in their original packaging was not “easily identifiable.”

Chili Frito received an A after a March 25 follow-up.

Dunkin Donuts on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach scored a 73% or C on March 18 during a routine check up.

Inspectors found hash browns that expired 18 days past the current date, according to the DHEC report. It said the restaurant’s chemical sprays were stored beside coffee beans and cup lids. There was also soiled wiping cloths in various places around the kitchen. The report said personal items, including purses and packs of gum, was placed on prep tables in the kitchen.

Dunkin was given an A after a March 28 follow-up.

Mr Crab on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach scored a 72% or C on March 9 during a routine check up.

The establishment lost points due to evidence of smoking in the kitchen and a cigarette butt being found in the hand sink. It said items, including hats and cigarette packs, were stored with single-service items at the cook line. Inspectors also found oyster tags without the last date of use and numerous containers of food not covered. There were soiled wiping cloths stored in different parts of the kitchen, according to the DHEC report.

Mr Crab was awarded an A after a March 24 follow-up.

Sakura Hibachi Buffet on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach scored a 71% or C on March 23 during a routine check up.

Inspectors found uncovered rice in the storage room and uncovered, cut potatoes stored on the floor. Multiple pans that had been put away were dirty with grease and grime, according to the DHEC report. Inspectors also found other kitchen utensils and items with heavy stains on them. They also saw evidence of rodents, including rodent droppings, the report states. Some food items were placed on the floor in the walk-in storage rooms, the report stated.

The buffet has not had a follow-up inspection as of Tuesday. March 29.
