ROAD TRIP: 2 Charleston restaurants make ‘America’s Essential Restaurants’ list
Two of Charleston’s restaurants — Bertha’s and The Grocery — made Eater.com’s 38 essential restaurants across the nation.
The list focused on the bistros, pizzerias, steakhouses, and taco trucks that defined dining in 2017.
The site said Bertha’s, at 2332 Meeting Street Road, has dishes that “originate from the culinary traditions of the Gullah, former slaves who established themselves in Lowcountry hamlets and the nearby islands.”
It said The Grocery, 4 Cannon Street, “has steadily bloomed into one of the city’s most remarkable and welcoming restaurants” in the last six years.
