Poppy’s: The perfect family spot with quality food
If some of your favorite childhood memories include burgers and fried desserts, Murrells Inlet is home to a joint that’ll take you right back. At Poppy’s Burgers and Subs, everyone can feel like a kid again while waiting for a freshly cooked burger, prepared by a family of hard workers whose good cheer will make them feel like neighbors.
Poppy’s has been a part of the Inlet community for almost seven years, never straying from the ideals the family set for themselves at the beginning. Their hand patted burgers are made from fresh beef, cooked per order in a tiny kitchen open to the entire restaurant. Toppings are just as fresh, which makes the other subs and salads similarly delicious.
Because each sandwich is made upon ordering, guests can add or subtract toppings with relative ease. Poppy’s specialty burgers are best enjoyed with everything on them however, such as the buffalo bacon bleu burger which obviously wouldn’t be complete without the tasty combination of bleu cheese crumbles and buffalo sauce.
The burgers and subs come with a side of fries, tots, or onion rings, all of which are perfectly crispy and not overly greasy. Other sides include applesauce, coleslaw, sweet potato fries, and frickles (fried pickles), the last two of which can be added on for a tiny upcharge.
Guests not particularly taken by a sandwich may find something to enjoy from the salad menu, or instead choose the daily homemade soup. More options include chicken fingers, a basket of their popular wings, or even the restaurant’s own version of nachos, the Nacho Poppy.
Poppy’s has also become known for their fried desserts, including Oreos, Twinkies, and even deep fried Nutter Butters. Funnel cake is a popular choice as well, especially when topped with strawberries and whipped cream. For something less fried but just as sweet, Poppy’s makes milkshakes in a few flavors like chocolate and peanut butter.
Monday through Thursday sees daily specials from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. such as the free kid’s meal with the purchase of an adult entrée on Monday, or the ever favorite $8.99 all you can eat wings special on Thursday. Other specials can change daily and can be seen on their blackboard or their social media page. Carry-out is an option often taken advantage of by locals and visitors in the area, and the burger joint now offers a delivery service.
