“The Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant in Myrtle Beach ceased operations this past weekend in conjunction with a broader revitalization taking place at the development,” said Bass Pro Group director of communications Jack Wlezien in a statement. “Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will remain open. All restaurant associates received severance packages and the option to apply for openings at Outdoor World.”

A call to the company Monday morning resulted in this answering machine message:

“Thank you for your call. As of January 15, 2017, the Islamorada fish company restaurant in Myrtle Beach has closed for business. It has been a pleasure serving you for the last 12 years. We apologize for any inconvenience and welcome all of our very loyal guests to visit us in one of our many locations throughout the United States in your travels.”

There are 17 other restaurants around the country, and no others in South Carolina, according to the company’s website.

Seafood fans know they’re in for a treat when the catch of the day catches their eye before they even make it to the table. This month, The Flying Fish will be celebrating their eighth anniversary in North Myrtle Beach.

First-time guests will notice right away that the restaurant also is a market, with some of that day’s haul on display, including entire fish on ice gazing woefully through the glass. This fresh food is one of the many reasons The Flying Fish is so popular, with the business promising less than 48 hours between boat and plate.
