Bait and Brews: Seven Grand Strand piers where you can sip a beer while fishing
Fishing is a popular way to unwind and enjoy time on the ocean throughout the Grand Strand and many local piers have beer for a cold one while at the docks.
At least seven piers in the greater Myrtle Beach area allow anglers to sip on drinks while they reel in their catches, but each has its own rules around alcohol consumption.
Pier 14
Pier 14 is the site of a beloved fishing pier and popular restaurant and gift shop in bustling downtown Myrtle Beach.
The pier, located at 1306 N. Ocean Blvd., allows those strolling or fishing on the water to consume alcohol, but only if it is purchased on site, staff members said.
The restaurant at the pier serves classic American fare and seafood, as well as drinks.
2nd Avenue Pier
The 2nd Avenue Pier, also located in downtown Myrtle Beach, is another popular spot to enjoy an ocean breeze and catch some fish.
The pier is located at 110 S. Ocean Blvd., and visitors can fish with a drink in hand, as long as it is purchased at the pier, according to the pier’s website.
The pier restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, according to the website. Pier staff could not be reached for confirmation as the phone numbers listed online are no longer in service.
Apache Pier
The Apache Pier is located within the Apache Family Campground at 9700 Kings Road in Myrtle Beach.
The pier, which boasts being the longest wooden pier on the East Coast, allows alcohol consumption while fishing, according to staff members. The restaurant at the pier, Groupers at the Pier, serves seafood dishes, cocktails and beers, but anglers can also bring their own beers.
Beers must be in a koozie while on the pier, and bringing one’s own beverages is limited to one six-pack of beer per person, staff members said. During the pier’s summer entertainment series, which has concluded for the year, alcohol must be bought on site, a staff member explained.
Cherry Grove Pier
The Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Beach also allows drinking while fishing., according to staff. Drinks must be purchased at the pier, where there is a restaurant and bar.
The pier is located at 3500 N. Ocean Blvd.
Surfside Beach Fishing Pier
At the Surfside Beach Fishing Pier, drinking while fishing is allowed, but like most other area piers, drinks must be purchased on the pier, according to staff.
The Surfside Beach Fishing Pier is located at 11 Ocean Blvd. S. in Surfside Beach.
Springmaid Pier
At the Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach, relaxing with a fishing rod and a drink is allowed.
Drinks can be purchased at the gift shop or bar, but cannot be brought in from outside, according to staff.
The Springmaid Pier is located at 3200 S. Ocean Blvd.
The Pier at Garden City
The Pier at Garden City also allows visitors to drink, provided they purchase their alcoholic beverages at the pier, staff members said.
The pier is home to a cafe, arcade and frequently live music events.
It is located at 110 S. Waccamaw Drive in Garden City.
