If you’re looking for something that’s in between chiropractic care and a workout, Stretch Zone might be the next stop in your wellness journey.

This business offers a unique service of stretching your muscles better than you can on your own in a 30 minute session.

The fitness and wellness chain, which hit a milestone of 200 locations last week, has locations in Myrtle Beach and in North Myrtle Beach. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What makes this business unique is the patented equipment and certified practitioners who focus on the clients needs and take notes each time they come in.

“If you come in, your protocol won’t be the same as anybody else’s in here,” said Bill Sturm, owner of the Myrtle Beach location.

Stretch Zone offers a complimentary first session for any local resident who wishes to try the service before spending $35 to $50 on a 30 minute session. Here’s how it works when you go inside:

After signing a waiver, you’ll meet with your certified practitioner to determine where your pain or weakness is. Alex Endler, the area manager of both locations, said that while athletes are one type that come in frequently, the service is also meant for normal people struggling with every day activities.

“We are able to cater to so many different people, because stretching can be done for whatever your goals are,” Endler said. “Whether it’s to be a world class athlete, or just to be able to get out of bed in the morning without pain, stretching out can help both of those things.”

Next, you’ll lay down on a rectangular table, the same size and shape as a spa bed or a chiropractic table, and get started.

The practitioner will guide you through each stretch and instruct you to say when you can feel the stretch and when the muscle can’t be stretched any further. This allows the client to have some control of the session.

Straps are placed over the clients torso or legs in order to isolate parts of the body.

One benefit of getting someone else to stretch your muscles is that they can target muscles better than you can on your own.

“When you’re stretching on your own, you might be stretching a general area, but when we stretch, we’re stretching exactly that muscle,” said Emilye Denny, the assistant manager. “It’s definitely isolating, which gives you a better and deeper stretch.”

Stretching consistently can increase blood flow, and allow joints a full range of motion. Both effects allow for more movement and more flexibility in every day life. For someone with mild pain, Endler recommends going once a week.
