Police: Armed men go to Wal-Mart to prepare for doomsday
Police say a group of men with semi-automatic weapons and body armor went to a Kentucky Wal-Mart to prepare for doomsday.
Lexington Police Lt. Jackie Newman tells the Lexington Herald-Leader that officers were called to the Wal-Mart on Saturday night after people reported seeing men inside a car wearing body armor and holding weapons. A six-month old baby was also in the car.
The men told police they were preparing for doomsday and needed supplies.
Police found marijuana in the car and cited the men for the drugs, but did not charge them with any other violations. Police say a license is not required to have a semi-automatic weapon in a car.
Lexington Police spokesman Richard Willoby says the men were not doing anything criminal with the weapons.
Joy-riding pups crash into West Virginia Wal-Mart
Witnesses say a dog was at the wheel of a car that slowly crashed into a West Virginia Wal-Mart.
Shoppers told WSAZ-TV that two dogs were in the car — one in the driver's seat and one in the passenger's seat — as the vehicle rolled into the building in Wayne on Friday. No injuries were reported.
The car owner says she left the car running while she went into the store so the dogs could stay cool. She says the dogs must have somehow managed to get the car out of park.
A store employee says the dogs were fine. The building and the car had minimal damage.
Maine restaurant cooks up 100-pound burger
What started out as a joke became reality this past weekend when a Maine restaurant cooked up a 100-pound burger to celebrate its first year in business.
WCSH-TV reports the owners of Dirigo's Public House in Yarmouth worked all day Sunday to cook a freshly ground, 70-pound beef patty that weighed in well over 100 pounds with all the toppings added.
Co-owner Ben Grant says he and his fellow owners were looking for something creative to celebrate their restaurant's first birthday when someone suggested taking their burger to another level.
Customers purchased tickets for a chance to get a bite of the massive burger, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting a local food bank.
Grant says it seemed inappropriate to do something this excessive without giving back.
Drone and owner get stuck in Grand Rapids-area tree
A man trying to retrieve a drone from a tree in the Grand Rapids area needed his own rescue.
WZZM-TV reports that the man, wearing spikes, climbed the tree Saturday but got stuck. Firefighters in Wyoming, a Grand Rapids suburb, couldn't immediately save him. A fire truck got stuck in soft ground and had to be pulled out.
The man finally was removed from the tree with equipment from a tree service.
A neighbor, Brad Oliver, says the rescue effort began when the man's wife hadn't heard from him for hours.
