Her dirty habits have him ready to clear out

Q: I’ve been dating this girl about a year now, but there’s something bugging me:

Her place is filthy. Huge piles of dishes in the sink, trash overflowing with diapers, and the place even has a smell.

She never changes her sheets, even after sex. And lately, she has been wearing dirty clothes.

When I talk to her about it, she says she’s busy with work, school and the baby. I don’t even like going over there anymore. I stay with my mom, so she can’t come here.

Any advice?

Steve: If a smelly, dirty home is just unacceptable to you, then you need a new girlfriend. She won’t change. To steal a line from Joss Stone, I’d call her a “dirty, dirty woman.”

Mia: Picture yourself living with this woman 20 years from now. Her place is worse than ever. Dirty. Stinky. Full of clutter and probably a 20-year-old playing video games on a couch covered with fast-food wrappers.

If I were you, I’d get out now. There’s no need to say why. Just get moving.

Remember this Mia-ism: Dating is not about settling; it’s about finding the best match. This slob ain’t the one.

Editor’s note: We received this from a reader about our advice to a woman frustrated because her married lover had finally left his wife but then found a new girlfriend:

Q: Neither of you mentioned the obvious: A smart girl never dates a married man! Even separated, it’s 50-50 she will be the one he marries if he ever does get divorced. The fact is _ and it’s nothing new _ there are always more presentable single women around than presentable men.

Any marriage requires an element of luck. A good place to meet single guys, in my experience, is your local or closest diner. Single men breakfast out! They don’t want to do any dishes in the early a.m., or have to look at them first thing coming home.

Widowers tend to remarry quickly, almost always to a lady they already knew; they don’t want the old dating game.

Join a sporting club. Try trap or skeet shooting, or golf. Join a political organization.

Mia: I never thought to suggest someone take up skeet shooting, but heck, it could work.

Steve: It’s pretty rare for a newly free husband to stick with the gal he was having an affair with. She’s usually a transition. It’s the next woman he dates who has the best chance.

Steve is a 50-something married man who’s been around the block. Mia is a younger, recently married woman with an all-together different attitude. They may not agree, but they have plenty of answers.
