For The Surge

Their name may not sound cool, but culottes are chic again, especially for looking stylish in the summer heat. The breezy cut of these trousers that hit at the knee, or just below the knee, are cut with a full leg so they resemble a skirt.

For the chicest approach to culottes, shop for quirky or graphic prints, bold hues, or classic cuts in lightweight fabrics like linen or seersucker.

For a fun option, Loft’s Dot Fluid Culottes in Petrol Grey ($59.50) add just enough of a pop to your wardrobe. This pleated pair of culottes stand out from the crowd thanks to the large white polka dot pattern. Pair them with a simple white or black scoop neck t-shirt and sandals for an easy, chic look.

Or, for an edgier approach, pull on Anthropologie’s Esterillos Culottes in Black Motif ($98). The black and white mosaic print is accented with an orange and black and white striped pattern at the cuff. The drawstring waist and loose fit of the culottes pair well with an orange tunic or basic white camisole and strappy black sandals.

Bold color

Bright hues are another fun way to wear culottes this season. For a sophisticated look that pops, try on Anthropologie’s Esme Culottes in Kelly Green ($59.95). Comprised of linen with wide legs, these culottes in a vibrant emerald green will look posh when worn with metallic heels, silver jewelry, and a fitted white tank or camisole.
