American Idol winner McCreery, Myles to perform at House of Blues
North Carolina’s Scotty McCreery will bring his deep, southern country voice back to the House of Blues Friday, and he’ll be joined by soulful country singer Morgan Myles, who performed during the recent Carolina Country Music Festival in Myrtle Beach.
McCreery is most known for winning Season 10 of Fox’s hit reality TV show American Idol and his breakout singles “I Love You This Big,” “The Trouble With Girls” and “See You Tonight.”
Speaking from his home in Garner, N.C., McCreery said one of the joys of his 5-year-old stardom is being able to travel to different venues.
“It’s always been a favorite part of what I do, which is being on the road and kind of that live aspect of the music,” McCreery said, adding he enjoys performing close to home. “It’s always kind of nice when you have shows close to North Carolina, South Carolina, where you see close friends and family come out that you don’t always get to see.”
McCreery said there is a new set and new production from the 2014 show that swept through the House of Blues, and fans can expect some new music that McCreery is trying out on fans of his recent shows to see if they will make the cut on his new album.
Among many music accolades McCreery has accumulated, he’ll blush if you mention that he took home Nash Country Weekly’s Sexiest Man award in 2015.
“There must have been a glitch in the voting system,” McCreery said with his baritone laugh. “You just kind of take it and laugh at it and have a good time with it, I guess.”
McCreery said his music has matured as he has.
“It kind of is the evolution of me,” he said. “That’s a great way to put it. One thing about my music is that I got started so young. So when I was 17, you saw the 17-year-old me, then you saw the 19-year-old me , and now you’re going to see the 22-year-old me. Though it might seem like just a few years in the grand scheme of life, those four or five or six years are big in anybody’s life as far as growing up and finding out who you are and who you want to be.”
He said although he missed much of his late teens and early 20s, he considers himself “fortunate and blessed” to be able to live out his passion.
“It’s totally been worth it,” McCreery said. “I did miss out on some things, but everything happens for a reason. My life has been incredible these last few years. While I may have missed some things, I did do some pretty cool stuff myself. It was a decent payoff.”
Blonde-haired country soul singer Morgan Myles brings her bubbly personality and addictive smile back to the beach after winning new fans at the festival earlier this month.
“An outdoor festival, the sound is usually great because they’re building the stage from scratch, and usually they’ve got the production guy on-hand… ,” Myes said of her Saturday performance at CCMF. “For me, I really enjoy playing more of the intimate clubs just because people are just really starting to find out about me, so I really want them to hear my music and hear me. I think that I can connect with them more.
“But at the festival the other day, people were like, ‘Wow, you so connected with the crowd. You got them going.’”
Myles said it is important for her to get in a zone personally and then connect with her band.
“Because if we’re having a good time, the crowd is going to have a good time.”
Myles comes from Williamsport, Penn., and made the move to Nashville. She said balancing the positive vibes she hopes to portray with an industry that has left many in the dust comes down to her core belief in life.
“You have to do what makes you happy,” Myles said. “After living in Nashville for 10 years, I come from a teacher and a man who has worked in a factory for most of his career, which I totally respect and love so much, but we didn’t know what we were doing or getting in to. So every little step was like a huge victory for us, even though we didn’t know how far we had to go.”
Myles’ band has a different take on country music, she said, acknowledging she is known as a country and soul singer.
“We try to bring a little bit of Chris Stapleton and Girl Crush from Little Big Town vibe to what we do,” Myles said.
