Q) What was your first job?
A) My first job was working at the Murrells Inlet Seafood Market, scaling fish when I was 14. It was awful. It was disgusting, I lived a block away and my dad made me walk home because I smelled so bad leaving from work, it was...I...I mean, three shampoos in the shower, it was...disgusting.
Q) How long have you been a bartender?
A) A little over two years? I started here as a hostess, they bumped me up to serving tables, and the second I turned 21 they put me behind the bar.
Q) Favorite thing to drink?
A) Behind the bar? I’m a beer drinker. I like IPAs, so any kind of fun craft beer.
Q) Do you think the drinking age should be lowered to 18?
A) If it got lowered to 18 I wouldn’t have anything bad to say about it. I mean, you can do everything else at 18, why not go have a beer?
Q) Most embarrassing moment?
A) When I first started bartending, I had a big group of people, and I’m really good with high volume but I was just nervous, my first time behind the bar. I was shaking a margarita, and let the cup go, and it just exploded in my face in front of everybody.
Q) If you get truly bad service is it OK to stiff your bartender?
A) I think it depends, I would normally say absolutely not, we work for tips, it’s just common courtesy to tip your bartender always, HOWEVER, depending on how bad it is...I’ve left a very bad tip before, but I don’t think I’ve ever stiffed my bartender.
Q) Best tip you’ve ever gotten?
A) I got a $150 tip up here at a table once. Made my day.
Q) Favorite drink to make?
A) The “Gator Piss” here. It’s fun. Everybody has something funny to say about it.
Q) Worst quality in a bar patron?
A) I think that person that doesn’t think that they have to wait. And they have to be at the front of the line, always, no matter what, the person that, you know, waves their hand in the air? Drives me crazy.
Q) Best way to get a bartender’s attention?
A) I would say...to wait politely and make eye contact and not be that obnoxious customer because I’m probably gonna go away from them first.
Q) Best conversation you’ve ever heard at a bar?
A) This was CRAZY. So just recently, right around the corner here, there were two guys, you could tell they were like, probably best friends and they were wasted, you know had the arm around each other, “Oh, I love you bro, blah blah...” One of them got mixed signals, and WENT IN FOR A KISS. And the other one, I thought, was gonna throw him into the inlet. Oh my God, like what is happening? I don’t think they’re friends anymore. That was a good one.
Q) Signature drink?
A) My signature drink is the Mango Punch, it is Bacardi Mango Fusion Rum, lime juice, pineapple, cranberry, ginger ale. It’s delicious.
