It’s that special time of year for breweries, homebrewers, and craft beer drinkers alike to raise a glass and celebrate the fermented beverage we hold so dear — American Craft Beer Week!
Created in 2006 by the Brewers Association, the annual, week-long observance has enjoyed tremendous growth as the craft beer scene continues to flourish across the country. This year, it will be observed from May 16-22, and events will be held in every corner of America, from California — where Stone, Russian River, Sierra Nevada and other legendary brewers are based — to Philadelphia’s numerous craft beer conventions and last but definitely not least, right here in Myrtle Beach.
Atlas Tap House is showing their appreciation and love of craft beer with several special events beginning with their continued Beer School series with Terrapin Beer Co. (Athens, Ga.) as the main subject. On Thursday, May 19, Atlas will be featuring Terrapin’s Single Origin Coffee Stouts. Beginning with a base stout, Terrapin linked up with Jittery Joe’s Coffee, an Athens specialty coffee roaster, and chose four, single origin coffees to brew with that single stout to create four unique brews. This presents an entirely new way to appreciate beer, especially if you're into coffee as well. Each of the featured coffees provide its own unique qualities. For example: The Guatemala-Huehuetenango has a medium body, and produces a juicy, peppery plummy finish. Pair that with a very well-made balanced stout, with sweet malts to back up and boost the flavors, and you’ve got quite the treat. The other three origins are Ethiopia- Hambala, Sumatra- Wahana Natural, and Hawaii- Kona. Check out Beer School at Atlas to try all four!
Hometown brewery New South Brewing has also been staying busy lately by partnering up with Atlas to celebrate the love of the craft community. It is with New South that the community continues to grow, by creating new and exciting things that we can’t seem to get enough of! Atlas will be hosting a “Support your local brewery party on the 20th of May. Owner and Brewmaster Dave Epstein as well as Head Brewer Jilly Garner will be there to share in the celebration with giveaways and $4 New South brews all night.
On Saturday, May 21, the final day of Craft Beer Week, Atlas will have Carolina-brewed beers for $4 each for a special Carolina Craft Beer Day. This day is a prime opportunity to support the entirety of the beer community by celebrating the leaps and bounds the Carolinas have made over the past decade! With amazing offerings from a bunch of the new guys, old guys, and cross-country transplants, there are going to be plenty to raise a toast to (and with!).
