Open/Shut Case | Fresh Greens opens its doors; Ron Jon’s re-opens under new management

▪  After a soft opening to see how she runs, Fresh Greens celebrated its grand opening on the first day of the month. Located in the University Commons strip across the street from the college, this new restaurant promises to provide only organic and fresh ingredients for their salads, juices, and smoothies. Although a few doors down from a similar restaurant, Tropical Smoothie Café, there has been plenty of excitement for the fresh addition. Not only are their salads and smoothies freshly prepared, Fresh Greens also cold-presses and bottles their array of juices in house. This café is also proud to use free-range chicken products and grass-fed beef.

Fresh Greens is still putting some finishing touches on their website, freshgreens.com, and Facebook page. Their salad menu is available to download, which lists the many ingredients customers can use to create their own meal, or just choose one of the signature salads.

They open at 6:30 in the morning on weekdays and at 8a.m. on the weekends. Fresh Greens closes their doors daily by 9 at night. Call 843-347-9696 to talk to a friendly employee, or drop by 201 Graduate Road for some deliciously healthy food.

▪  Barnaba’s Pizza Pie completed the renovations of their new location on the second of this month in The Galleria shopping center off U.S. 17 and has begun serving pizza and wings. The Barnaba family considers this time to be a soft opening, using the first few days and weeks to train their employees and iron out the wrinkles.

At the moment, their menu consists of NY style pizza, a collection of subs, appetizers, wings, plus a few pastas, desserts, and kid options. The restaurant appears comfortable with feedback during this time, and has indicated things may continue to change. Barnaba’s does offer a 10% discount for locals, as well as delivery between the Grand Dunes and Barefoot Landing.

For the time being, Barnaba’s will be open from 11a.m. to 7p.m. Monday through Saturday. This new addition in the Restaurant Row area can be reached at 843-945-1707 or contacted through their Facebook page found under the restaurant’s name. They also have a functioning website, barnabaspizzapie.com. For a taste of upstate New York without leaving the beach, let Barnaba’s help you out.

▪ Ron Jon’s Beer and Burgers appears to have finally reopened their doors after months of renovations. This dive was known for being a great hang out for locals and impressive Happy Hour discounts. Now Ron Jon’s is under new management and has redone much of the interior and made the entire building smoke-free.

Ron Jon’s still has a Facebook page, although it hasn’t been updated in quite a few months, which includes the hours which remains 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The listed phone number also remains deactivated for the time being.

▪ Despite a small gathering of local support, Ohana Grill in Socastee closed their doors a few weeks ago after an unfortunately short life. This family-run hibachi place was open for roughly eight months off Dick Pond Road in the Bi-Lo shopping center. As the name describes, this small restaurant was family oriented and had great prices for Japanese and Asian fusion cuisine.
