While wedged sandals and pointy toed heels are reigning supreme in spring fashion this year, another style of shoe is on trend for a more comfortable look this season: the slide.

Colorful, with platform bottoms or a simple band design, this season’s slide is a chic alternative to your average flip flop.

Metallic

Dress up jeans and a t-shirt or a simple A-line dress with a slide in a metallic shade. Gold, silver and copper are hot hues this season and will look chic next to any skin tone. A pretty option is the Mezzo Flat Sandal in Gold ($45, Aldo). One large gold band is accented by two smaller gold bands in this slide’s design, offering more sparkle and coverage.

Color

Rainbow hues and Jamaican color schemes were popular combinations for slides on the runway; however, if you prefer to keep it more basic, opt for a slide in one or two bright hues like red or orange. The David Tate Fay Sandal in Red ($92, Belk) is vintage chic with its platform wedge style bottom and bright red suede crisscross design. Pair it with an off-the-shoulder top and skirt or black cotton maxi-dress.

Classic

If you want footwear that can go anywhere, a more classic style and color combination might be the best option for you. Camel, black, and brown are always safe and chic choices for interpreting a trendy style. The MICHAEL Michael Kors Joy Slide Sandals in Luggage ($110, Dillard’s) offers a single band style with a slight heel in a rich, light brown leather. These sandals will look chic with jeans or with your favorite weekend dress.
