On the day before the Super Bowl, On the Half Shell was gearing up for a party. The friendly atmosphere was reflected in the good food and service.
From bacon-wrapped scallops to steamed oysters and angel-hair pasta, the restaurant served food that suited pretty much every taste. The bar has a daily happy hour, with drink and food specials that make it convenient to stop in for a quick lunch or a cold beer.
Happy hour is from 4-7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The restaurant is open from noon to midnight, Monday through Sunday. Happy hour prices include beer for $2.25 and $4 for wine. Well drinks are $3.50 and are discounted to $3 during happy hour.
On the Half Shell has been in the area for eight years. The food is considered “unique” and original, according to employees. This includes the lobster and shrimp quesadilla and the half-shell burger.
The quesadilla has a stuffing of lobster and shrimp, along with sauteed spinach and Brie cheese, served with a house made mango salsa. The half-shell burger is a delicious, house-made scallop, shrimp and crab patty, served on a brioche bun. It’s topped with wasabi aioli and a fried avocado. There is also “The Stack,” which is a filet and crab cake topped with a garlic cream sauce and served with mashed potato cake.
The drinks and food are very affordable at the Half Shell. A quick lunch, with drinks and appetizers, came out to about $29. The plates were full and there was enough to take home for another meal.
The bar has indoor and outdoor seating, and several large bars to handle an overflow crowd. Widescreen televisions are located throughout the room, and sports games can be watched from many different angels.
On the Half Shell has a raw bar and lots of seafood-based dishes.
There are also entrees and appetizers that fit other tastes.
A filet and lobster-tail dinner is being offered on Valentine’s Day.

The Surfrider Oyster Roast and Bloody Mary Contest takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Feb. 28. Application deadline is Feb. 26, by 10 p.m.
