THE LOWDOWN

Chelsea Jo’s is a friendly restaurant known as a “gathering spot” for friends.

The location in Garden City Beach continues to attract hungry customers who love the meat loaf, fried fish, burgers and steaks.

But the business has made some recent changes, including a new owner, new menu items and plenty of fun for Washington Redskins football fans.

Chelsea Jo’s first opened its doors in South Carolina in 2006.

Chelsea Jo’s was located in Murrells Inlet, but moved to Garden City Beach about 10 years ago.

Chelsea Jo’s is now owned by Chuck Duvall, a long-time restaurant employee.

The change in ownership just happened in December, according to employees.

While Chelsea Jo’s is keeping its well-liked, homemade menu items, there is now an opportunity to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant.

Chelsea Jo’s is still famous for its fried chicken, according to restaurant co-managers Allen Dailey and Chase Wakefield. It also has an every-day lunch special and dinner special, according to Dailey.

The specials include tasty options of meatloaf, hamburger steak, grilled chicken, fried flounder or spaghetti.

The lunch specials, which come with a choice of two sides and a drink, cost a very reasonable $7.69.

The restaurant now offers a different homemade soup each day to hungry customers, Dailey said.

Friday nights, the restaurant has seafood night, Dailey said.

This could mean an offering of haddock, flounder or grouper or blackened Mahi Mahi with pineapple salsa.

The restaurant will also offer a seafood-based soup or chowder on Friday nights, Dailey said.

Happy hour now takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

The drink specials include $1.75 for a 16-ounce glass of domestic draft, $1.75 for domestic cans and $4 for an eight-ounce glass of house wine. Rail drinks are $3 and “a dirty banana” drink is $4.

Happy hour specials are also offered on food. Chicken fingers, cheese sticks, fried mushrooms, cheese fries, onion rings and chili dogs are offered during happy hour for a very reasonable $4. Chicken wings are $5.50 during happy hour.
