THE LOWDOWN

Saturday afternoons, football and numerous wide-screen televisions meld together quite nicely at the Causeway Grill & Raw Bar in Garden City Beach.

It doesn’t hurt that the bar has good food, multiple pool tables, karaoke and lots of electronic games.

The menu has lots to choose from, and happy hour takes place weekdays, from 4 to 7 p.m. The drink specials during that time give 50 cents off any beer or house liquor.

Appetizers at the business include bacon wrapped scallops, calamari, chicken strips, potato skins and fried ravioli. There are also the favorite menu items of buffalo shrimp, grouper bites, mahi mahi bites, nachos or a basket of onion rings. The raw bar offers oysters on the half shell, fried oysters, fish basket, mahi mahi basket, peel and eat shrimp and blackened shrimp.

Soups and sides include New England Clam Chowder, she-crab soup and homemade chili.

Sandwich offerings include crabby patty sandwiches and Texas grilled cheese. Drinks are hard to choose from, as there are numerous choices of cocktails, liquor or beer. The bar offers margaritas, wines, and bottled beer, both domestic and premiums.

Some of the special cocktails include the Causeway Caloda and Strawberry Lemonade.

The bar has regular dart game tournaments.

Customers visiting the bar on a recent Saturday said they gather there quite often. “The business attracts a lot of different ages,” said customer Susan Bidenger. “You see everyone from 21 to 80.”
