THE LOWDOWN
A lovely location with white tablecloths, fire pits, wood-fired pizzas and lots of atmosphere is located on U.S. 17 in Pawleys Island.
Frank’s Restaurant & Bar and Frank’s Outback & Bar are actually two restaurants, in the same location, which offer a wide variety of drinking and dining choices.
Frank’s has beautiful tables to handle indoor customers, while those seeking an outdoor setting are welcome to use the couches, chairs and tables placed outside.
“It’s a white-tablecloth restaurant, but also a beach restaurant with a casual atmosphere,” said Chip Vermont, a bartender at Frank’s. “We are good for nightly dining and we have comparable prices.”
Frank’s opened in 1988, in the former location of Marlowe’s Grocery Store.
Pictures of the former business, and other photographs of historic Pawleys Island, grace the walls of Frank’s.
The gleaming wooden bar, surrounded by sparkling bottles of wine and other beverages, welcomes visitors as they enter the door.
Franks’ and Frank’s Outback are owned by Salters and Elizabeth McClary.
The two opened Frank’s in 1988 and added the Outback section several years later.
Another fire pit was just added to the Outback portion of the business, Vermont said.
“We just put the fire pit in this week,” he said. “I think it will be a big draw out there. We have couches and tables. It is a place to mingle.”
Besides the eye-catching appeal of Frank’s and Frank’s Outback, there is also a lot to like about the food and drink selections.
Wood-fired pizza is offered in Frank’s Outback, with a 20 percent discount on the pizzas on Tuesday nights.
Food can be packaged “to go” from either Frank’s or Frank’s Outback, Vermont said.
The menu includes many specials throughout the week.

Wood-fired pizza comes with ingredients such as roasted peppers and provolone, as well as Italian sausage, Mediterranean lamb, shrimp, bacon and Portobello mushrooms.
