  • ▪ In the lot that houses Murphy’s Law South in Garden City, there are a number of changes that will be happening over the next few months. Murphy’s is closing, and plans have been confirmed for a new sports bar that will take its place, once the old building has been torn down and rebuilt.

In the building next to Murphy’s, Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin has plans redo the exterior and clean up the inside. This small Tennessee-based chain of family restaurants specializes in made-from-scratch breakfast food, and are also known for their signature log cabin look. For more information about Flapjack’s, visit their website flapjackspancakes.com.

The new sports bar replacing Murphy’s in Garden City and the Flapjack’s going in next door hope to celebrate their opening in spring.

And just north of the new sports bar where Murphy’s Law was, Quaker Steak and Lube has plans to make its first Grand Strand location. Quaker Steak is a casual dining franchise known for their wings and love of cars. This company is expected to open a new location in South Carolina by Memorial Day.

▪  Calli Bakers Firehouse closed on the 9th of this month because of unresolved issues with their current building, according to their Facebook page updates. They do intend to reopen in a new location, on Lake Arrowhead Road, with the hopes of being open by spring. In the meantime, they are looking for a temporary location to continue serving guests, and encourage fans to regularly stop by their page, facebook.com/callibakers.firehouse, for updates.

▪  Fiesta Mexicana on South Commons Drive in Surfside has closed its doors unexpectedly, and the closure isn’t mentioned on their Facebook page or website, fiestamexicanacantina.com. The Myrtle Beach location on 70th Avenue remains open and serving their delicious and authentic Mexican food.

▪  The first Grand Strand Checkers and Rally’s fast food restaurant is coming to Surfside, in the location that was once Sharkey’s Sports Bar on S. Kings Highway. Checkers is a drive in burger joint popular in the south and into the mid-west. They’re known for their burgers and loaded fries of course, but also sell chicken and fish sandwiches. It looks like the changes to the building are almost done, but as of yet there are no estimates as to when the new restaurant will be open.

▪ Great PeeDee Q unfortunately closed their doors after about two months of service. This charming restaurant was family run and did their best to bring Lowcountry and Southern food to the area. They had takeout and delivery as well, and even hosted events with local businesses. Great PeeDee Q hasn’t announced any reasons to explain their closure, but we wish them all the best.

▪ Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach has unveiled their new bar called Town Center at Beach Cove.
