THE LOWDOWN
The Wild Horse Saloon is a cool bar with a great vibe, even in the middle of a weekday afternoon.
The crowd is friendly, the staff is happy to see you and there are plans being made to expand the menu at the well-known locale.
Formerly known as Beach Monkeys, the bar has been known as the Wild Horse Saloon for three years. During that time, it has continued to attract a crowd of locals, and visitors, to enjoy music, a pool table, video games and a bank of televisions that stretches all the way across the room.
Bartender Carissa Kenney explains that the bar has both karaoke and live bands throughout the week. Karaoke is cranking from 8 p.m. until midnight on Thursdays. Live bands are in the house from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Fridays and Saturdays. The James Austin Band appears from 5 to 9 p.m. each Sunday.
With all the fun going on during the week, the Wild Horse has an added attraction of showing the NFL Sunday Ticket on Sunday afternoons. Customers can watch a large array of football games on at least 11 wide-screen televisions, placed in a row above the bar stools.
The bar has plenty of seating at the wooden bar and at widely-spaced, nearby tables. If the crowd spills over, there is also a large outdoor patio with additional seating. The Wild Horse Saloon plans to expand their menu, with the addition of a steak dinner on Friday nights.
The special menu item will be available from 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays. That menu choice will begin Nov. 13, Kenney said. The steak dinner is priced at $14.95 and includes a salad and baked potato. The regular menu is also expanding to include personal pizzas, Philly cheese steak, fries and a blackened grouper dinner, just to name a few.
To wash it all down, the bar offers a wide variety of beer and other beverages.
The beer offerings include: Budweiser, Miller Lite, Yuengling, Rolling Rock, Corona, Corona Light, and Blue Moon.
“We rotate the seasonal beers,” Kenney said.
The Wild Horse Saloon is almost always open for a great time and a great meal. The location serves lunch starting every day at 11:30 a.m. The kitchen is open until close each night, around 2 a.m.
Happy hour takes place from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Wild Horse attracts many people who live nearby, who simply walk to the bar, Kenney said. Having a crowd that appears on a regular basis is a plus for the Wild Horse Saloon.
“The local crowd is very friendly,” Kenney said.
For those who drive, there is no shortage of parking at the bar.
“We have a lot of available parking. What you see in the front is not our only parking area. We have parking in the front and back.”
Happy hour specials include 50 cents off all beer and house liquors.
