  • ▪ Between Oct. 22 and Nov. 6, Bumstead’s Pub on Mister Joe White Avenue will be closed. The bar plans on renovating their inside a bit in order to become a non-smoking building. However, they’re also adding a beer garden outside, more than likely to accommodate the guests who do enjoy a puff.

Bumstead’s is known for being a fun sports bar, plus a great place to get drinks and enjoy Taco Tuesday. They pride themselves on being like an English pub, with great food and a wide variety of drinks, events, and games to keep their patrons entertained.

During this construction their good neighbor, the original Dagwood’s Deli, will remain open from 11a.m. to 4p.m. For more information about Bumstead’s brief closing, visit them at bumsteadspub.com or call 843-445-6592. They can also be reached at their Facebook page, which is updated frequently.

  • ▪ True BBQ, a family-owned restaurant in Socastee, opened their second location the beginning of the month near the Coastal Grand Mall. The previous tenant, Smitty’s Pine Island Pub, closed around two years ago, and the building had been empty since. The new restaurant in this quiet location is a welcome change.

On the corner of Pine Island Road and Robert Grissom Parkway, the location can be considered remote and off the beaten path. But it’s rather close to the mall and Kings Highway, so it’s actually a pretty central location, and easy to get to.

The parking lot and building itself cleaned up very nicely and has plenty of room for guests. If the first location of True BBQ is going to be any indication, their second restaurant is going to need all the space they can get.

True BBQ is known for their traditional smoked meats along with other soul foods like collard greens, coleslaw, cornbread, sweet tea, and rice with gravy. They also shake things up a little with True BBQ’s Nachos and their take on sliders.

Since soul food is meant to be enjoyed with friends and family, True BBQ makes it easy to buy in bulk. This can be for take-out of course, but the restaurant also has plenty of seating to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Meat by the pound can also be purchased, and sides are available in individual or family size servings. To top things off, this family restaurant has homemade desserts every day.

Drop by True BBQ’s new location anytime between 11a.m. and 8p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. You can also call them at 843-945-4111 or visit their website, truebbqmb.com, and their Facebook page under the same name.
