Music Notes | TreeHouse! featured at Carolina Sessions Festival
Fall is heating up with the rock-reggae festival California Roots: Carolina Sessions, which is moving to Myrtle Beach after two years in Wilmington, N.C.
The one-day festival beginning at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 3 will be held at the site of the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion in downtown Myrtle Beach. The show features 11 acts including a superstar national act, several popular regional touring acts, and a local band climbing the reggae-jam circuit.
Organizers say the site at Ninth Avenue North in Myrtle Beach is “five times larger” than the former site at Battleship Park on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington. Tickets, around $70, are available online and at the gate, with surcharges added. $140 V.I.P. tickets were sold out as of publishing deadlines.
After the success and 15,000-plus in daily attendance at last summer’s Carolina Country Music Festival, it seems downtown Myrtle Beach is on the map for outside promoters, and that means more festival music for area residents and visitors.
The lineup for the Carolina Sessions rock-reggae show includes: 311, SOJA, Steel Pulse, J Boog, Stick Figure, Passafire, The Movement, New Kingston, Leilani Wolfgramm, Dustin Thomas, and local favorites, TreeHouse!.
Debuting in 2010, TreeHouse! honed its skills at venues around the Grand Strand, especially at Pirate’s Cove in North Myrtle Beach. The three-piece act has since released three albums worth of material and has toured consistently along the East Coast.
Self-described as “reggae jam rock,” TreeHouse! starts with reggae and adds elements of a coastal, island sound accented by punk and metal. Regularly adding guest players, TreeHouse! can be a true “family band” with six to eight players on stage all sharing the jam.
Dozens of YouTube videos showcase the act, which features Jeremy Anderson on guitar and vocals, Trey Moody (drums) and Matt Link (bass). Visit www.treehousetheband.com for information. Bourbon Street Celebrates
Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in Myrtle Beach will celebrate two years since new owners took over the popular neighborhood watering hole and music venue. The public is invited to the Anniversary Party to partake in free food and customer appreciation on drinks between 9-10 p.m. Oct 1.
The Kenny George Band, playing rootsy rock ‘n’ roll, from Aiken, will take the stage at 10 p.m. kicking off the Rocktober Jam Series with regional acts each Thursday night in the month of October.
Oktoberfest on the Boardwalk
More beer, fun and games, and live music are scheduled for downtown Myrtle Beach on Oct. 10-11 with the annual Oktoberfest celebration. The event typically draws thousands to the site of the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion.
Family-friendly (especially during daylight hours) the two-day festival features local, regional and national acts including perennial favorites Cowboy Mouth as Saturday’s headliner. Also scheduled for Saturday: Dino Capone’s School of Rock Collision Course, PaperWork, Groove Fetish, Painted Man, and Machine Funk “Tribute to Widespread Panic.”
Battle of the Bands finalists will perform on Sunday with the top six acts (out of 1,000-plus to start) competing for $5,000 in prizes. Both days are all-ages and free to attend.
