Open/Shut Case | Roll credits on Planet Hollywood in Myrtle Beach
▪ Planet Hollywood in Myrtle Beach is now closed.
Amy Sadowsky, with Planet Hollywood International, released a statement on behalf of the restaurant.
Here is the statement in its entirety:
“After almost 19 years in the community, Planet Hollywood has opted not to renew the lease for its Myrtle Beach location, which remained operational through Labor Day weekend. The company is pursuing other opportunities for the legendary franchise while focusing on the global development and expansion of Planet Hollywood Resorts International.”
Planet Hollywood is an attraction of Broadway at the Beach. As of Tuesday morning it is unclear what Burroughs and Chapin, Inc. will do with the land.
A call to the Myrtle Beach restaurant states that the location is closed. The message also incorrectly identifies the restaurant as located in North Carolina.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but our Myrtle Beach location has closed for business,” the voicemail said.
▪ It’s September, summer is just about over, school is back in session… and the Grand Strand is lit up with festivals, from Ocean Isle in North Carolina all the way down to Pawleys Island. Some restaurant events include the House of Blues’ “Local Brews, Local Grooves” on the 12th and the Croissants Bistro and Bakery “Back to School Wine Dinner.”
There are a number of car club cruise-ins, a few locations being Maggie D’s Fine Italian Cuisine and Fox’s Pizza Den. The Market Common, Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach all have their own events going on and the popular St. John ’s Greek Festival returns at the end of the month.
The Duplin Winery is joining in the festivities and will host the first Grape Stomp at their new location in North Myrtle Beach. The event will have live music, tours, wine tasting, and even some neighborly fun at Alligator Adventure.
Silver Coast Winery in Ocean Isle is having its own grape stomp as well, with art vendors and a classic car cruise-in. Both grape stomps occur on Sept. 19. For a detailed list of all these events and more, visit myrtlebeachonline.com or any of their affiliated social networks.
▪ Charleston’s Restaurant week, Sept. 9-20, is being celebrated and some of the benefits are stretching all the way up to the Grand Strand. Co Sushi, a Charleston original located in The Market Common, has a three- and four-course menu that highlights their greatest dishes, and can even be matched with cocktails for each entrée. Co Rewards Members have access to this special menu all month long, on top of the rewards they gain from each visit.
The first entrée on the Restaurant Week menu at Co is dumplings, with gyoza or wontons as the available options. The second course is a choice between two salads, the Vietnamese chicken or ahi poke ceviche. For the main meal, guests have the difficult decision of choosing between some sushi, pad Thai and Thai green curry. Co made it easy on their customers for the final course, only offering their crispy cheesecake wontons to top off the extensive meal.
For three courses, customers pay only $20, and the fourth course adds an extra $5. For those who want to enjoy matching cocktails with each course, prepare to add $17 to the bill. Co will also have live music every Thursday and Friday on their patio, from 8 to 11 at night. To find out how to become a rewards member, a visit eatatco.com.
▪ The Nacho Hippo in North Myrtle Beach quickly finished up and threw open their doors on Sept. 3. Their third location in the Grand Strand is across U.S. 17 from Barefoot Landing, and many locals and tourists are thrilled to have the popular tex-mex restaurant on the north end now.
▪ Mick and Mike’s Sports Bar at 1008 U.S. 17 N., North Myrtle Beach unfortunately had to close at the end of August. The bar had its ups and downs throughout the years and ultimately had to close its doors. They’ve received numerous well wishes on their Facebook page and hope to reopen or relocate one day. Mike Hall posted the page’s last update on Aug. 18.
▪ Harold’s on the Ocean, another local spot in North Myrtle Beach, had its last concert on Sept. 7. Many locals are sad to see them go based on posts on the Facebook page. Harold’s has been a popular bar for many years, known for their live music and fun times. The owners and employees have expressed their gratitude for all the business and friendship given to them throughout the years. A posting on the website www.haroldsontheocean.com says “Maybe we will be able to open the doors of Harold’s On The Ocean once again in the future!”
▪ Z’s Amazing Kitchen has announced Sept. 14 as its opening date. This new North Myrtle Beach restaurant wants to bring fast but delicious food to the area. They intend on having fresh ingredients and natural meats, untouched by chemicals. Z’s is also proud of its attempts at keeping their carbon footprint as small as possible, using recycled materials, down to the frying oil that will be turned into bio-desiel for their trucks to use.
Much of Z’s menu will be their take on Southern dishes, plus an array of salads, seafood and even tacos. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options will have their place on the menu as well. Beer and wine will be available for those so inclined, though there isn’t any news yet on if there will be a happy hour.
With Z’s declaration of getting food out to customers is 10 minutes or less, plus all the edible options, this restaurant will surely fit right in. Z’s Amazing Kitchen is located in the Coastal North Town Center in North Myrtle Beach toward the entrance. They plan on being open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
