An oceanfront view ... an arcade next door ... plus drink and food deals ... what more could you ask for?
That’s what you can find at Loco Gecko Beach Shack at the Crown Reef in Myrtle Beach. That’s where we went for happy hour this week.
Loco Gecko Beach Shak is located on the lobby level of the Crown Reef Resort in Myrtle Beach next to an arcade and cafe. Like its name, it has a beach shack feel. The walls are wood, covered with colorful business and street signs. The floor is also colorful, painted with logos and signs. There are numerous tables scattered throughout the establishment, and colored seats surround the square bar in the middle.
That atmosphere is laid back, filled with beach-goers, families, golfers, tourists and locals. Any seat poses a glimpse of the beautiful ocean, especially the handful of tables outside along the oceanfront balcony. The bar is open air when the weather is nice, opening the retractable windows that look over the Atlantic ocean.
The signature drink at Loco Gecko is the Myrtle Beach Punch, which is $5 all day every day. You can also get certain drinks in a coconut souvenir cup that you get to keep.
Happy hour runs from 4 to 8 p.m. daily. Drink deals include $3.50 well drinks, $3.50 import and $11 domestic beer buckets. You can also snag specialty drinks such as Punch #9 for five bucks. Food specials include a personal pizza, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings or nachos for $6. You can also snag chips and guacamole or queso dip for $4.
TIPS
Locals get a 10 percent discount. You can park in the parking garage or across the street. New drink specials are coming soon.
