Perrone’s moves from market to high-end restaurant and bar
THE LOCALE
THE LOWDOWN
Are you looking for a new place to try? Perrone’s Restaurant and Bar takes dining to a whole new level. That’s where we went for happy hour this week.
You’ll find Perrone’s Restaurant and Bar on Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island where Pita Rolz used to be located. The outside of the establishment isn’t much to look at, which makes the inside that much more impressive.
As you walk in the door of Perrone’s you’ll be taken aback by the beauty and ambience. A large colorful mural of a jazz trio covers the back wall of the tapas bar. And you can find an abundance of beautiful art by local artists hanging throughout the entire locale.
You may be familiar with the former Perrone’s Market which used to exist directly across the street from the now restaurant, beer and wine bar. There’s nothing deli about this high-end establishment, which has grown to be more than 3,000 square feet. Despite the large size, because of the layout, the setting is still intimate whether you decide to sit in the tapas bar, dining room or secondary dining room. There is also a new private dining room in the back.
The menu is comprised of world cuisine with a mediterranean focus, with unique choices such as escargot, peruvian tuna causa and moroccan poussin. Tapas start at 5 p.m. and the tapas menu includes a cheese plate, charcuterie plate, fondue, crispy pig ears and a “sexy egg.”
It’s evident the passion that owner Steve Perrone has for food ... and drinks. You’d be hard pressed to order a beverage that they don’t offer at Perrone’s. The wine list selection exceeds 300 wines. There are 85 craft beers available, and there are a couple hundred liquors to choose from. The large selection opens up countless possibilities of drinks, including several dozen craft cocktails created by the owner.
Happy hour runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays (closed Sundays and Mondays.) Drink deals include $4 house pours, $3 select bottled beers and $2 off glasses of wine.
TIPS
Perrone’s now has a Coravin Wine Access System that allows them to pour wines by the glass without opening the cork, allowing you to taste expensive wines without having to buy the entire bottle.
