NFL's Warren Sapp Investigated for Alleged Assault at Senior Living Facility

Former NFL star Warren Sapp was investigated over an alleged assault at a senior living facility in Florida, and prosecutors declined to charge him with a crime, TMZ Sports reported on Wednesday, July 1.

The alleged incident occurred on May 25, when the Apopka Police Department responded to a call at the Solaris Healthcare facility. A female employee told authorities that Sapp, 53, "got physical with her" when he arrived at the facility to request records and answers regarding a family member's insurance.

The employee said Sapp "became verbally hostile" during their discussion. When she called her boss and put him on speaker phone so Sapp could hear, he allegedly grabbed her phone and made contact with her wrist.

She said she told Sapp "don't touch me" and asked co-workers to call the police, but Sapp had left the facility by the time they arrived.

Sapp reportedly did not return phone calls from police, who said they had probable cause to charge him with battery, even though prosecutors decided not to do so.

The Hall of Famer has not publicly addressed the incident but was active on social media on Wednesday, posting photos and video via Instagram from the Team USA World Cup match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sapp played 13 seasons in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders, winning Super Bowl XXXVII with Tampa in 2003. A former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a seven-time Pro Bowler, Sapp was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons working for head coach Deion Sanders at the University of Colorado before resigning to pursue "other opportunities," according to a press release.

This was not the first time Sapp has been investigated for assault. In 2010, he was arrested and charged with domestic battery after an alleged altercation with a female acquaintance at a Florida hotel. He was in town at the time to cover the Super Bowl for NFL Network, which cancelled his appearance in the wake of the allegations.

An arrest affidavit obtained by ESPN at the time said the victim had a swollen knee and bruises on her neck after Sapp allegedly choked and pushed her. The charges were eventually dropped.

In 2015, also during Super Bowl week, Sapp was arrested on suspicion of assault and soliciting a prostitute in Phoenix. He was charged with solicitation and assault, but the solicitation charge was dismissed.

The New York Daily News reported that Sapp had completed a Prostitution Solicitation Counseling Program and that he needed to complete a diversion program for the assault charge in order to avoid jail time. Sapp pleaded guilty to both charges.
