Tiger Woods Makes 1st Public Appearance Since Latest DUI Arrest, Rehab Stay
Tiger Woods made his first public appearance after his latest DUI arrest.
On Tuesday, June 23, Woods, 50, stepped out in Hartford, Connecticut, while returning to his role as the chairman of the PGA Tour's Future Competition Committee.
Woods gave an introduction for PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp during a news conference at the Travelers Championship, which did not mention his absence.
"It's great to see him back," Rolapp said, per The Athletic. "Tiger's been involved throughout the process and contributed meaningfully. It's awesome to see him back, in great form. We're real excited about it."
While Woods temporarily pressed pause on his chairman role while seeking treatment at a facility in Switzerland, the golfer has returned to the U.S. and will resume his duties, a PGA Tour spokesperson said. For the past few weeks, Woods has been "hyper-involved" in boardroom conversations, according to the spokesperson.
News broke in March that Tiger had been involved in a rollover car accident that led to his arrest. The golfer, who announced he was seeking treatment, pleaded not guilty to charges of DUI, property damage and refusal to submit a lawful (urine) test.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," he wrote in a statement via X. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."
He continued, "I've committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
County Court Judge Darren Steele approved his request to travel outside of the United States to get the care he needed. Woods landed in Switzerland to begin his treatment in April, coming back to Florida the following month. One week after his return, girlfriend Vanessa Trump shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
"While this isn't news anyone expects, I'm working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan," Trump, 48, wrote in a statement posted via Instagram in May. "I would like to thank my doctors for performing a procedure earlier this week on me. I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me."
Later that month, TMZ Sports revealed that Woods' private plane had returned to Switzerland.
