Golfer Rickie Fowler's Polarizing Orange Juice Preferences: 'I Like to Chew'
While Rickie Fowler is known for wearing orange on Sundays - a nod to his alma mater, Oklahoma State University - his somewhat unconventional orange juice preferences have remained under wraps. Until now, of course.
"I'd say as a kid, I preferred it without pulp," Fowler exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, May 4, in honor of National Orange Juice Day and partnership with Tropicana. "Nowadays I like it. I like both [with and without pulp]. Sometimes I like to chew on the pulp. I've always liked it over ice."
Just drinking juice with pulp is one thing. Liking to water it down with ice and then chew on it is something entirely different. Still, the golfer is a proud expert on the subject, adding that his two kids "love" orange juice as well.
"I feel like we have to try and keep it to a minimum for them so they don't drink too much," Fowler said. "Because I feel like they would just drink it all day."
While Fowler is the former PGA Tour rookie of the year and climbed as high as No. 4 in the world rankings in 2016, he is first and foremost a father. He and his wife, former pole vaulting sensation Allison Stokke, share daughters Maya, 4, and Nellie, 21 months. The family of four travel together while Fowler is competing - something he said he will enjoy until the kids are old enough for school to interfere with his busy schedule.
"It can be busy, it can be hectic," he said. "It's a traveling circus, you know, in a place for one week, unpack, set everything up, and then pack back up and move on to the next. But we wouldn't change it. Being able to have everyone together, [to] take advantage of that as much as we can."
Most recently, Fowler finished ninth at the Cadillac Championship, high enough to qualify for the 2026 PGA Championship. It was a relief, after he failed to qualify for the Masters in April.
He added that Stokke, 37, has been invaluable in helping him concentrate on his game.
"For her to have that understanding of the time and dedication of what it takes to be great at something that really helps me," Fowler said. "To know that I need to go put work in and I need to do certain things."
That has, he said, allowed him to separate his life on the golf course from his family life, where he can go home to his kids and "throw back a couple orange juices."
On a particularly tough day, that might mean his favorite orange juice-based cocktail, a screwdriver, which he called "the most well-known, the most simple." Fans are encouraged to share their favorite orange juice cocktail or mocktail with Tropicana on Instagram for a chance to win a Tropicana "juiced-up beverage cart."
The sweepstakes, appropriately, began on National Orange Juice Day and runs through May 16, National Mimosa Day.
