An old-school mix tape of Myrtle Beach-area musicians

Ex-Grand Strander and minor music mogul Michael Wood has helped compile a slew of Myrtle Beach and regional artists (old and new) into a CD entitled “Broken Hearts Broken Sounds,” featuring several never-before-heard tracks from the vaults of producer Brian McKenzie.

Silber Records, a longtime production partner of McKenzie’s and Wood’s, has made the release available on Bandcamp and its own website (silbermedia.com) for $2. It features 18 tracks from The Veldt, The Affectionates, Hyphen Burnhole, King of Prussia, Planet Cock, LoveyDove, SAVAS (Something About Vampires and Sluts), One Bad Apple, Sleeping Policeman, M is We, Miss Massive Snowflake, Remora, Electric Bird Noise, Feel No Other, Nighttime Tides, Downlouders, Octopus Jones, and Silver Screen Orchestra.

Some of these tracks are real standouts including: SAVAS’ “Not Tonight,” Octopus Jones’ “Grand Illusion,” and, in fact, there’s not a dog in the bunch. It’s the kind of record you can listen to start to finish, and not realize these are all local or semi-local indie acts.
