Patriots Point throws back admission 40 years, to $2
Escape south on U.S. 17 to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum’s 40th anniversary party, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday with a special “throwback” $2 admission rate –the cost of tickets on opening day in 1976.
The celebration will include a showcase on many of the new exhibits and technological upgrades from the past few years, and at noon, the launch of an animated series by Scrappy, the mascot for the USS Yorktown retired aircraft carrier flagship on site, moored alongside two other former ships: the USS Laffey destroyer, and USS Clamagore submarine, both added in 1981.
Find the museum – which opened on Jan. 3, 1976 – at 40 Patriots Point Road, Mount Pleasant. From U.S. 17, take the Interstate 526 spur east, then turn right (north) on S.C. 703, and left on Patriots Point Road, and find the complex on the right. Details at 843-884-2727 or patriotspoint.org.

Waccamaw Library resumes ‘1st Thursday’ forums
The Friends of the Waccamaw Library “1st Thursday” adult education series is back after a summer break, with adults welcome at all programs, always at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday monthly at Georgetown County Library’s Waccamaw Neck branch, 41 St. Paul Place, Litchfield Beach, off Willbrook Boulevard, with this schedule through mid-winter:
▪ Sept 1 – “For Our Rivers,” with Emma Boyer, Winyah Rivers Foundation’s Waccamaw Riverkeeper, with introduction by Lee Brockington, local historian.
