Collectors Cafe unveils Summer Art Show

Collectors Cafe & Art Gallery has opened its Summer Art Show through October.

Brookgreen, CCU concerts give shout for ‘Hushed Thrill’ CD

Two concerts by the Coastal Carolina University Jazz Combo will herald the release of the “A Hushed Thrill: Brookgreen Gardens” CD:

▪ 10:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at Brookgreen Gardens, on U.S. 17, between Litchfield Beach and Murrells Inlet, in the Palmetto Garden. Free with gardens admission: which lasts lasts seven days: $16 ages 13-64, $14 ages 65 and older, $8 ages 4-12, and free ages 3 and younger (843-235-6000 or www.brookgreen.org).

▪ 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at CCU’s Edwards Recital Hall, in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, on the main campus, accessed from U.S. 501 or S.C. 544 in Conway, with a reception afterward. Free to see.

Producing the CD caps off a yearlong collaboration between Ron Daise, singer-songwriter, Gullah preservationist and Brookgreen’s vice president for creative education, and CCU’s Athenaeum Press. Daise composed all eight numbers, and 33 CCU students arranged, performed, recorded, designed, and edited the project, with Matt White, a music professor, jazz recording artist and the faculty mentor for this venture, through the Athenaeum Press and CCU recording studio.
