Besides sculpture showcase, meet Lego exhibit creator at Brookgreen
The National Sculpture Society’s 83rd annual Awards Exhibition, with works by 45 artisans from across the country, opens Saturday, going through Oct. 20, at Brookgreen Gardens, the host for this showcase since 1999.
Besides the most prevalent subject and sculpture medium – human figures and bronze, respectively – look for works in stone, wood, terra cotta, fired clay, and ceramic, with an array of themes, including portraiture. mythological, allegorical subjects, and moments in everyday life, all spread across both halls of the Rainey Gallery. An awards/closing reception will be Oct. 29, including announcement of the annual People’s Choice Award winner.
Also, the “Nature Connects: Legos Bricks Sculpture” outdoor display lasts through Sept. 5. See this traveling exhibit’s creator, Sean Kenney of New York – also an author of eight children’s books – in a lecture at noon Saturday, followed by a book signing in Keepsakes, Brookgreen’s gift shop.
Seeing both special exhibits and the talk are free with gardens admission, which lasts seven days: $16 ages 13-64, $14 ages 65 and older, $8 ages 4-12, and free ages 3 and younger.

Door’s open for women to join Serendipity Singers
The Serendipity Singers, a woman's choral group, will resume rehearsals to prepare for a new season, and new voices are welcome.
