Summerland Tour stops by to rev up Speedway

Myrtle Beach Speedway’s amphitheatre will rock with two extra dates this summer.

The fifth annual Summerland Tour – with Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit, and Sponge – will play at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $45, or $25 for lawn seats.

Also, a triple bill of Rick Springfield, Night Ranger, and the Romantics, is at 8 p.m. Aug. 27, for $55, or $35 lawn.

Find the raceway at 455 Hospitality Lane, off U.S. 501, about three miles north of Myrtle Beach, and just past S.C. 31.

Honey bees abuzz at Brookgreen Gardens’ zoo

Brookgreen Gardens has opened a newly installed, year-round observational bee hive, to help give the public insight into how these insects work and how vital they are as pollinators, not only for flowers but many food crops.

Find the hive in the deer savannah deck area in Brookgreen’s Native Wildlife Zoo. The Bee Cause Project of Charleston furnished the hive, funded by a donation from Coastal Montessori Charter School of Pawleys Island.

The zoo, including a river otters building with viewing through glass, is free with admission, which lasts seven days: $16 ages 13-64, $14 ages 65 and older, $8 ages 4-12, and free ages 3 and younger.

Find the gardens – also host of the “Nature Connects: Legos Bricks Sculpture” exhibit through Sept. 5 – on U.S. 17, between Murrells Inlet and Litchfield Beach – open 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily, and extra hours until 9 p.m. Wednesdays-Fridays through Aug. 5. Legends in Concert sizzles with summer lineup

Legends in Concert continues a summer of tribute shows with this scheduled lineup through Sept. 4: the Blues Brothers (Dan Meisner as Jake, and Russ Peterson as Elwood), Brooks & Dunn (Larry Turner as Kix Brooks, Doug Brewin as Ronnie Dunn), Adele (J.C. Brando), Bruno Mars (Isaiah), and Elvis Presley (Michael K. Chambliss) – for whom Michael Jackson (J. Lucas) will substitute, Aug. 8-13.
