June festivals highlight next two weeks | On the Cheap

Some of the area’s most popular festivals and events will take place along the Grand Strand over the next few weeks. Here’s what’s happening:

Saturday and Sunday (5/28-5/29)

The Conway SummerFest will be held on Saturday in downtown Conway (at 3 rd Ave. and Laurel St.). Admission is free. This event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will include live music and other entertainment, arts and crafts, food vendors, a kids’ play zone and more.

The Town of Surfside Beach is holding a Memorial Day Cookout on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. on Surfside Drive. Admission is free. This event includes live music, concessions and more.

You might want to bring a chair.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday (6/3-6/5)

The annual Sun Fun Festival will take place this Friday through Sunday in Plyler Park (and surrounding areas). Admission is free. This event will include live music, a parade, a sandcastle building contest, beach bingo, bocce ball, face painting, balloon animals, kids’ activities, photo ooths, free shag lessons and more. On Saturday and Sunday, the Native Sons Salt Games will be held at the old Pavilion site and on the beach out front. Admission is free for spectators; there are some fees if you want to participate in the games. This event includes 15 competitions, live entertainment, games, food vendors, beer trucks and more. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Barefoot Landing is holding its annual Paddle for the Pets Boat Race Festival to benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.

This event includes a build your own boat race, food vendors, live music, a furry fashion show, kids’ activities and more.

Wednesday (6/8)

Every Wednesday and Friday through August, the Myrtle Beach Hot Summer Nights downtown concert series will take place on one of the stages by the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Admission is free. The Wednesday night concerts will be on the Blu Energy stage from 7-9 p.m. The Friday night concerts will be on the I Love Sugar stage from 7-10 p.m. You might want to bring a chair.

Thursday (6/9)

Monster Jam is coming to the Myrtle Beach Speedway this Thursday and Friday. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for kids. This event will feature Monster trucks Backwards Bob, Carolina Crusher, Grave Digger, Ice Cream Man, Jester, War Wizard, Zombie amd Xtermigator. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
