Horry County Fair, Tastes at Pawleys tops affordable things to do
It’s finally time for the Horry County Fair! There are also some events coming up over the next few weeks that will appeal to food lovers. Here’s what’s happening.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday (4/15-4/17)
The Horry County Fair begins today and runs through April 24 at the Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for kids (5-11); $3 for seniors (65+); and free for active military members (ID required). This event includes a carnival ($), vendors, live entertainment, a petting zoo and other kids’ activities, racing pigs, demonstrations, food and drinks for purchase and more. Hours are from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday and 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
April 15 from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Little River United Methodist Church at 1629 U.S. 17 is holding an Angie’s Day Dinner and Silent Auction. Admission is free. This event includes BBQ plates for purchase ($8), a silent auction, live entertainment, a raffle, face painting, a bake sale and door prizes. Proceeds will benefit Angie’s Day, an organization that helps local people who have serious illnesses.
Every Friday through May 27, The Boathouse is putting on a free concert. There will also be food and drink discounts. The concerts start at 9 p.m. Go to http://www.boathousemb.com/summer-concert-series/ for the lineup.
Art in the Park, an art show put on by the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild, will be held in Valor Park on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Local artists will be displaying a variety of artwork, including paintings, woodwork, photography, jewelry, fabric, glass, metal, pottery and stonework.
Saturday and Sunday (4/23-4/24)
On Saturday, House of Blues is hosting the annual Taste of the Coast. Admission is $3 in advance; $5 at the door. Food and activity tickets are $1 each. This event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes food sampling, face painting, kids’ activities and live entertainment.
The Laurel Street Yard Sale will take place on Laurel Street in downtown Conway from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Outside vendors, people from the community and downtown vendors will be selling their wares. Admission is free. There’s a $20 vendor fee if you want to participate in the sale.
On Sunday from 4-7 p.m., Tastes at Pawleys will be held at the Parish Life Center of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church (1633 Waverly Road in Pawleys Island). Tickets are $4 in advance; $5 at the door. This event will feature food sampling from local restaurants. Food tickets are $1 each. You’ll need more than one for each sample.
