It’s that time of year for feeling green – no foolin’ – as we start April with this roundup of some festivals and special events for this first month of the year measured by exactly 30 days.

Just this Saturday, both local state parks go wild with wildlife showcases on Saturday, the same day Brookgreen Gardens’ begins its annual “Plantacular Sale” for the weekend.

Three clubs, including the Grand Strand Model Railroaders, will team up again for their third annual “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” display and benefit for Pretty in Pink Foundation (for breast cancer awareness), 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Myrtle Beach Mall, at U.S. 17 and S.C. 22, near Briarcliffe Acres.

A series of benefit runs and walks steps off, too, on Saturday with the third annual “Run for the Shelter” 5K and 1-mile Dog Walk, for The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, also concluding with a “Doggie Bone Hunt” later in the morning.

So, make no bones about it, April is abundant, to say the least, with things to do. Get out and celebrate the colors, spirit and renewal of spring.
