Marathon, cruise-in top things to do this week along Grand Strand
Myrtle Beach Marathon kicks off this week
The 19th annual Myrtle Beach Marathon kicks off Thursday with the HTC Runner’s Expo from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Myrtle Beach Sports Center.
The expo continues Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Also on Friday, the Ripley’s Aquarium Family Fun Run will begin at 5:30 p.m. where participants will run through Broadway at the Beach ending inside Ripley’s Aquarium.
The Bojangles’ 5K will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, as well.
On Saturday, at 6:25 a.m., the wheelchair and crankchair marathon will begin, followed by the Dasani Half Marathon and then the full marathon.
This is the first year the race will be run in March. Traditionally it has been run on Presidents Day weekend.
Super Tuesday slated for this week
Super Tuesday is this Tuesday for the 2016 presidential primary season.
On Tuesday, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota , Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia will have primaries or caucuses, while Republican caucuses will be conducted in Alaska and Wyoming.
The Republican candidates can win about half of the 1,237 delegates needed. The two remaining Democrats are after 880 delegates, roughly one-third of those needed to win.
Princess Gala set for Saturday
The “Princess Gala,” benefiting American Red Cross, Myrtle Beach, will be from 8:30 a.m.-noon at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. Breakfast will be at Travinia Italian Kitchen, and parade to Grand 14 Cinema for a movie. The cost is $30 per person, plus meal tips. Reservations required at princessgala.net.
Spring Home Show at Myrtle Beach Mall next weekend
The Spring Home Show Expo will be from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Satutrday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday, at Myrtle Beach Mall, at U.S. 17 and S.C. 22, near Briarcliffe Acres. The cost is free. For more information, call 856-401-9111 or log on to alwayspositivegroup.com.
Myrtle Beach Car Club has Cruise-in Saturday
The Myrtle Beach Car Club will host a cruise in Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Creek Ratz, 4065 U.S. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet; and Hot Rod Promotions (843-503-8245), “Lost in the ’50s Sock Hop,” with The Doo Wop Band, 3-9 p.m. at Surfside Beach Moose Lodge 2351, 9763 Moose Road, Murrells Inlet, west of U.S. 17 Bypass, north of Tournament Boulevard/Inlet Square Drive.
