Concerts, play keep CCU stages hopping
Coastal Carolina University has a series of concerts, and a play’s final shows this weekend, on the main campus, accessed from U.S. 501 and S.C. 544 in Conway:

Historical sites celebrate cultural heritage
Three local sites steeped in history have special events on Satruday:
▪ “Artifact roadshow,” 9 a.m.-noon at Hobcaw Barony, on U.S. 17, just north of Georgetown, with tour of excavation site and identification of American Indian and Colonial era artifacts identified by a team of University of South Carolina archaeologists. $10 with reservations at 843-546-4623. Celebrate World Sword Swallower’s Day with Ripley’s
Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Odditorium in Myrtle Beach will celebrate its ninth annual World Sword Swallower’s Day on Saturday.
Ripley’s Ruckus Drumline will kick off festivities at 2 p.m., then Erik Kloeker will swallow swords and perform other feats at 2:27 p.m., to coincide with the date.
This is part of an annual tradition at several Ripley’s Odditoriums around the world, with the Sword Swallowers Association International (www.swordswallow.org), showcasing an art that dating back at least 4,000 years. The day also adds to awareness of the contributions sword swallowers have made to the fields of medicine and science, and raises money for esophageal cancer research.
Admission is free to see the aforementioned activities outside the local site, 901 N. Ocean Blvd, one of five Ripley’s attractions in the city, besides Ripley’s 5D Moving Theater, Haunted Adventure, and Marvelous Mirror Maze, all on the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard, and Ripley’s Aquarium, at Broadway at the Beach, on 29th Avenue North. Residents of Horry, Georgetown and Brunswick counties with ID receive half off admission to all sites as well.
