Great Backyard Bird Count, museum program take flight

Everyone is invited to join the 19th annual Great Backyard Bird Count, a free activity for anyone, anywhere, Friday-Monday to compile and share data.

The process is easy, by creating an online account at www.birdcount.org, counting birds for at least 15 minutes in one location on any or all of the four days, and filling out a daily checklist for each day.

Also, the Museum of Coastal Carolina, 21 E. Second St., Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., will have a tutorial at 11 a.m. Saturday on joining the bird count, with Kurt Hugelmeyer and Maria Knapik giving a slide show of local birds for a primer on possible sightings.
