Puppet show, Mardi Gras and Valentine’s events top affordable things to do

We have a great mix of free and cheap activities coming up over the next two weeks, for both kids and adults. From Mardi Gras celebrations to home improvement workshops; there’s a little something for everyone. Here’s what’s happening:

Friday, Saturday and Sunday (2/5-2/7)

Chapin Memorial Library will be putting on a Rumpelstiltskin puppet show today at 11 a.m. The show is designed for kids ages 3-7, but all ages are welcome. Admission is free.

On Sundays during the month of February, Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse is offering their dinner buffet for $21.95 (the regular price is $36.95). The doors open at noon.

Tuesday (2/9)

Dick’s Last Resort at Barefoot Landing is holding its annual Mardi Gras parade and party.

Admission is free. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Greg Norman’s, wind through the shops and end at Dick’s Last Resort with a Mardi Gras party. Parade participants will be tossing candy, beads and other trinkets along the way.

In Murrells Inlet, the annual Marshi Gras party will begin at 7 p.m. at the restaurants along the Marsh Walk. Admission is free. This event includes food and drink specials, a parade, live music and a Mardi Gras costume contest. For more information, see http://marshwalk.com/.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (2/12-2/14)

The Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association’s annual Home Show begins today and runs through Sunday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Adult tickets are $5; kids under 16 get in free. Parking is $5. This event includes home improvement, landscaping and cooking seminars; demonstrations and more than 200 vendors. Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is holding a Valentine’s Sweethearts Week event that begins Feb. 12 and runs through Sunday. Admission is free. This event includes camel rides, a kissing and photo booth, live music, a casino wheel, a candy kiss contest, door prizes and more. Go to http://www.myrtlebeachdowntown.com/ for the schedule.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, all Lowe’s home improvement stores are holding a free workshop for kids ages 5-12. The kids will be building a Valentine’s Day picture frame. Go to http://lowesbuildandgrow.com/ to register your child.
