Carvers Bay grad an Internet sensation with Adele parody pleading for tickets
A former Georgetown resident and Carvers Bay High School graduate is a blooming celebrity on social media following a parody of Adele’s hit song “Hello.”
Nay Nichelle, who moved to Charlottesville, Va., in 2013 but still has strong ties to family in Georgetown, wanted to take a friend to the Adele concert in Washington, D.C.
That dream fizzled when she saw the price tag for the concert.
“When I looked up the tickets I said, ‘No way’,” she said. “I wanted to take a friend and there was no way possible I could pay for tickets.”
So, Nichelle hatched a plan. She penned her own words to the singers song and published “Hello From the Parking Lot” on her Facebook page and YouTube.
The video has gone worldwide, with Nichelle even doing radio interviews with stations in the United Kingdom.
Nichelle hasn’t heard from the singer yet, but is holding out hope. Regardless, she says doing the parody was worth it.
“I feel like I have a pretty good chance (of getting tickets) right now,” she said. “I had no idea this would go viral. I may not get them, but that wouldn’t bother me because so many people have heard my voice and been so kind. So, I’m still grateful.
“Just a response (from Adele) would mean the world to me.”
The world, and Nichelle, are staying tuned to see if that happens.
